Geoffrey Chang

Geoff Chang has a rich background of consulting experience within the non profit, arts andcultural industries. He has advised a wide range of clients on executive search, strategic planning, and organizational assessments.

 

Prior to his consulting work, Mr. Chang served as General Manager of the Mark Morris Dance Group in Brooklyn, New York, where he produced performances at many of the world’s leading cultural venues and arts festivals. During his tenure, he implemented a process of licensing works to national and international ballet companies, increasing earned income and broadening audiences worldwide. Through growing the company’s portfolio of individual donors and successfully obtaining grants from foundations and corporations, Mr. Chang secured significant contributed income as part of a $25 million fundraising campaign, raising money for capital, artistic, and legacy projects.

 

Mr. Chang previously served as Executive Director of Dušan Týnek Dance Theater and asGeneral Manager of the Joffrey Ballet Concert Group, both in New York City. In these roles, he oversaw operations, devised and executed fundraising and marketing strategies, and managed human financial resources. Mr. Chang also worked for Rambert Dance Company in London, where as part of a major capital campaign he helped the company relocate to a purpose-built home on London’s Southbank, the city’s cultural district. Other arts organizations which he has worked for include London’s Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh.

 

Prior to his career in arts management, Mr. Chang worked as a commercial lawyer for the UK’s leading media and entertainment law firm, where he advised on a wide-range of legal issues for clients including theater producers, music record labels, and television broadcasters. As a board member of several arts organizations, Mr. Chang provides legal, strategic, and management guidance, and in July 2020 he was elected as a Trustee of Dance/USA, the national service organization for the dance field, where he sits on the Finance Committee.

 

Mr. Chang holds a bachelors and masters of arts in Classics from Cambridge University, where he specialized in ancient Greek theater and classical art, and won a scholarship to study for a year at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He also holds a law degree from the University of London, a Diploma in Arts Administration from New York University, and a MBA from Point Loma Nazarene University. He has guest-lectured in Arts Management at Columbia University, NYU, and taught in the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Management Fellowship Program. A classically-trained pianist and singer, Mr. Chang speaks German, and reads Latin and Ancient Greek.
